Thousands Observe Tsunami At Seulawah Golf Club

Aceh Besar, 26 December 2011 - Thousands of people gathered at Seulawah Golf Club in the city of Lho'nga, Aceh Besar regency in Indonesia's Aceh to observe seven years of major tsunami disaster in the province that claimed hundreds of thousands lives.

People who observed the tsunami disaster incited by a 8.9 magnitude earthquake in the Indian ocean off Aceh province on December 26, 2004 solemnly delivered prayers for the victims of tsunami that reached more than 200,000 people.

Lho'nga was among several cities in Indonesia's northernmost province of Aceh hit the most by the tsunami. Eighty percent of the city's population perished in the tsunami, the Antara news service reported.

The observance ceremony on the golf course was attended by thousands of students, civil servants, the military as well as Aceh Governor Irwandi Yusuf.

Tourists and the scholars from Japan also took part in the observance. The scholars distributed yellow papers for those attending the observance, encouraged them to express their feeling on the deadly tsunami disaster.
