Selangor, Malaysia, April 4 - Kemarol Baharin won his first ASEAN PGA Tour title and third Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour event when he claimed the PGM UMW Impian Championship crown with a three-stroke victory today.
The 29-year-old from Kuala Lumpur shot a final round four-under 68 at Impian Golf & Country Club that gave him a 17-under 271 total and earned him the winner’s cheque of RM30,600 in the co-sanctioned event.
The Thailand pair of Settee Prakongvech (68) and Sutijet Kooratanapisan (70) finished joint runners-up on 14-under-par 274, while their compatriot and joint second round leader Natthapong Niyomchon (70) was fourth, a shot further back.
William Sjaichudin from Indonesia, who at 7-under still was in a top ten position at the midway point, fell back dramatically and finished in a tie for 31st place after rounds of 77 and 75. Compatriot Rudianto finished in 51st position at 12-over-par.
Pleased with his victory that came after a week’s break, Baharin said: “I am very happy to have won again.
“I think the week’s break from golf was really good for me. I played consistently well and I also got a few lucky breaks, which really helped me. Overall, my game was good as I did not feel much pressure and I think that was because of the break from the game. I hit the ball solid and when I did get into some trouble I also got a few lucky escapes.”
On a final day of low scoring Malaysian Shaaban Hussin equaled the course record of Rashid Ismail, carding a bogey-free 62 that comprised an eagle and eight birdies.
After rounds of 73, 69 and 73 over the first three days, Hussin settled for seventh place on 11-under 277.
Shaaban, who went out in the first flight of the day, had a run of six-under over the five-hole stretch from the second.
“I felt that there was nothing to lose,” he said. “And with no-one in front of us I just played as aggressively as I could and it worked out very nice.
“I parred the opening hole and then went birdie-eagle-birdie-birdie-birdie over the next five holes. I had another birdie at the par-four eighth to make the turn in seven-under-par.”
Hussin’s attack mode did not relent and he fired another three birdies on the back nine, at the 11th, 14th and 17th holes.
Despite this outstanding showing of golf, he said he still needed to practice.
“I need to practice more,” he said. “I need to become more consistent with rounds of golf like today. I must concentrate on shooting low for four days and not just one or two rounds a tournament,” added the 35-year-old.

William Sjaichudin On Course For Top Ten At PGM UMW Impian Championship
Selangor, Malaysia, April 2 = Thailand brothers Donlaphatchai and Natthapong Niyomchon blazed a hot trail in the second round of the PGM UMW Impian Championship today.
Donlaphatchai fired a fine seven-under 65 to take a two-stroke lead into the next round with a 10-under-par 134 total, ahead of Malaysia’s Kemarol Baharin, who carded a 69 and fellow Thai Sutiyet Kooratanapisan (67). They finished on eight-under 136.
Natthapong, meanwhile, shot a 64 – just two shots off Rashid Ismail’s course record at Impian Golf & Country Club in Kajang.
The 26-year-old, who has two wins in Thailand but still seeking a first victory here in Malaysia, was joint fourth on seven-under-par 137, alongside compatriots Smithti Teeratrakul (69) and Settee Prakongvech, who also had a 65, and Indonesia’s William Sjaichudin (69).
v Pleased with his showing today Natthapong said he was happy to play himself into contention and with his ability to stay focused in the heat of the battle.
“The competition is very tough in these events as there are many good players. So for me to a low score today and get myself among the leaders is good,” he added.
Turning to his game, Natthapong said his putting was what made the difference and hoped to continue with it through the next two days.
“I putted very well today,” he said. “I played some iron shots and I drove the ball well off the tee box, but my putting was what was really good – so I am very happy at the moment.”
Natthapong had nine birdies in his round – three over the front nine and six on the homeward stretch, including a run of four-on-the-trot from hole No. 12. His only blemish was a bogey four at the par-3 7th hole.
Another player who left the course a happy man was Malaysia’s Shah Irwan Rusli. The 37-year-old amateur, who did not make the cut after an 82, struck the perfect shot at the 174-yard par-3 12th.
“That is my second hole-in-one,” he declared after his round. “And although I didn’t make the cut, I am still very, very happy.”
He used a 7-iron that went left, before the ball kicked right and rolled into the cup for the ace.

ASEAN PGA Tour Set For Ninth Season
February 18 - This season’s ASEAN PGA Tour will boast at least nine tournaments offering US$660,000 in overall prize money and a strong line up of established and new events.
Starting with the Singha Esan Open in February, one of four tournaments jointly sanctioned with the All Thailand Golf Tour, the 2015 ASEAN PGA Tour marks the ninth season since the circuit was inaugurated.
The Singha Pattaya Open, the Singha Hua Hin Open, and the Singha Chiang Mai Open, all part of the All Thailand Golf Tour, return to the schedule.
In addition three events will be jointly sanctioned with the Professional Golf of Malaysia (PGM) Tour in Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Port Dickson.
The Borobudur Classic, which was launched last year with great success, also returns to the schedule.
The season will come to a close with the Sabah Masters, an event which over the past three years has cemented its place as the season-ending Tour Championship.
“We are excited to be embarking on our ninth season and we are looking forward to another memorable year which will provide more playing opportunities particularly for our region’s up and coming young players,” said AC Wong, Executive Chairman, ASEAN PGA.
It has been a prolific rise for the ASEAN PGA Tour which boasted five events when it was launched in 2007.
“The Tour is continually looking to expand in to new markets and is hopeful of announcing additional events in 2015,” added Wong.
The 2014/2015 came to a close last month when Singapore’s Mardan Mamat won the Sabah Masters at Sutera Harbour Golf and Country Club.
The tournament also saw Thailand’s Gunn Charoenkul claim the Order of Merit title.
He topped the Merit list, and secured a OneAsia card, with earnings of US$34,299 following three victories.

Top Ten Finish For Joeh Seik At Sabah Masters
January 17, Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia - Singaporean Mardan Mamat prevailed in a pulsating final round to claim a masterful four-shot victory at the Sabah Masters on Saturday.
At his indomitable best, the 46-year-old successfully staved off a fierce challenge from Malaysia’s Danny Chia (67) and Arie Irawan (68) to triumph at the Sutera Harbour Golf & Country Club.
Even a late bogey on the 17 failed to ruffle Mamat, who notched four birdies in a closing three-under 68 to clinch his fourth ASEAN PGA Tour title with a solid 10-under-par 274 overall
Starting the final round with a four-shot cushion, Mamat came under immediate pressure from Chia, who rode a hot putter with six birdies through 11 holes, to half the deficit.
But Chia failed to narrow the gap further when he missed a short birdie putt on the 12th after Mamat had converted a five-footer of his own and the Malaysian number one suffered another unlucky break when he two-putted for bogey on the following hole to fall off the pace.
Similarly, Irawan's putting woes returned to haunt him after an inspired start as he fired blanks on the back nine to settle for a share of second alongside Chia on six-under 278.
Sabahan Ben Leong returned with a flawless 67 to finish sole fourth on 279, one stroke clear of Thailand's Sutijet Kooratanapisan (67) at the US$100,000 Tour Championship.
Indonesian amateur champion Joeh Seik finished strong with a round of 70, good for a total of 284 and a tie for ninth place. Meanwhile fellow countrymen Kurnia Herishandy and Adi Bramantio finished further down the leaderboard with scores of 295 and 303 respectively.
Picking up a cheque for US$16,675, Mamat was delighted to have preserved his four-shot overnight advantage after a hard-fought contest.
“I’ve come close a number of times at the Sabah Masters in the past and failed to finish it off, so to finally get my hands on this trophy, means a lot to me. It is nice to start off my 2015 season on a winning note and to be pushed all the way to the end for this win makes it all the more satisfying," said Mardan.
"I have to admit that Danny got off to a hot start and I had to resolutely defend my advantage. I knew that I had to shoot something like three to four-under today if I was going to be up here. Like, I've been saying all week, draining birdies were going to be crucial today and I'm very pleased with my performance - I struck the ball with a lot of conviction and my course management was excellent," he added.
He admitted that the turning point came at hole 12 when he managed to drain a tricky birdie putt while Chia did otherwise.
"I didn't expect Danny to miss that putt because he had an easier line than me. I holed my putt and began walking to the next tee when I heard the gallery gasp in despair.
"It is just one of those things that works in your favor and when he dropped a bogey on the next hole, I knew that I just had to nurse my advantage to the end," noted Mamat, who finished second on the Road to Sabah Masters rankings with a haul of US$20,085.
The veteran is enjoyed a purple patch of form and a second title is as many months after his runaway victory at the Resorts World Manila Masters at the end of last year means that he is no longer thinking about hanging up his clubs for good.
"The secret I believe is to stay healthy, keep breathing and play better golf - even when the chips are down," he quipped.

Supravee Phatam Wins First Borobudur Golf Classic
Magelang, November 21: Thailand’s Supravee Phatam capitalized on good karma in the shadow of the world famous Borobudur Temple and sauntered to a convincing victory in the US$60,000 Borobudur Classic today.
Supravee completed an impressive wire-to-wire win after closing with a one-under-par 71 at Borobudur International Golf & Country Club – located just 20 minutes from the world’s largest Buddhist temple.
He ended the ASEAN PGA Tour event on 11-under-par 277 and finished two strokes ahead of compatriot Pijit Petchkasem, who fired a 69.
Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat returned a 67 finishing a stroke further behind.
Supravee fired a course record 65 on the opening and never looked back with ensuing rounds of 72, 69 and 71.
“I am pleased to get my first win as a professional. I have been working very hard since I turned professional three years ago,” said Supravee, who earned a cheque for US$9,750.
“It was a tough battle as Pijit pushed me all the way. I had a feeling he might come through. I had a couple of three putts on the back and made some poor approach shots.”
Supravee had a four-shot lead at the start of the day. He began well by going out in two under before giving the chasing pack some hope by making bogey on 13 and 14.
Pijit fired four birdies and dropped one shot on the homeward stretch to put the pressure on the leader but had to settle for second place.
“It is one of my best finishes on the ASEAN PGA Tour. I just ran out of holes,” said Pijit.
Wisut, a five-time winner on the ASEAN PGA Tour, made his expected final day charge and after dropping a shot on the fourth he shifted gear and accelerated up the leaderboard with birdies on seven, eight and nine and then 11, 13 and 18.
Andik Mauluddin shot a 72 to finish as the leading Indonesian in joint fourth place along with Thailand’s Tanatchan Puaktes, who carded a 73.
Indonesian Jo Seik, whose Korean parents raised him from birth in Jakarta, finished as the leading amateur in a tie for eighth position following a 73.
Earlier this year he claimed the Indonesian Amateur Championship.
The next event on the ASEAN PGA Tour is the season-ending US$75,000 Sabah Masters at Sutera Harbour Golf Club from January 14 to 17.

Andik Mauluddin Eyeing Podium Spot At Borobudur Golf Classic
Magelang, November 20 - Supravee Phatam confidently kept the lead in the US$60,000 Borobudur Classic for the third straight day after carding a three-under-par 69.
The Thai golfer, looking for his first win on the ASEAN PGA Tour, move to 10-under-par for the tournament for a four-shot lead.
His compatriot Pijit Petchkasem also carded a 69 at Borobudur International Golf & Country Club to move into second position.
Thailand’s Tanatchan Puaktes returned a 70 and is a shot further adrift along with Indonesian Andik Mauluddin, also in with 70.
“I believe in myself and believe I can do this,” said Supravee.
“I rolled in some nice putts and kept my game together. I feel comfortable and I am not letting the pressure get to me.”
He led by three after the first and second rounds and has kept the ball out of trouble on a tight golf course that can see big numbers carded on some holes.
Supravee dropped a shot on the third but rallied with birdies on seven, 10, 16 and 17.
Pijit, another Thai looking for his maiden ASEAN PGA title, birdied the opening two holes and then the fifth to mount a challenge. He was unable to maintain that form but is in with a fine chance of victory tomorrow.
Mauluddin, one of the country’s leading players who has been looking for a breakthrough win at the top level, made an eagle on the par-five 18th to close the gap on the leaders.
“I chipped in for that eagle. It was lucky but I am playing well and have a chance,” said Mauluddin.
Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat, one of the favorites to win and a five-time winner on the ASEAN PGA Tour, fired a 73 and is seven behind the leader in fifth place.
He is tied with countrymen Pasamet Pogamnerd (70) and Annop Tangkamolprasert (72).

Locals Keep Trailing Thais At Borobudur Golf Classic
EAGLE EYED SUPRAVEE HOLDS HALFWAY LEAD IN BOROBUDUR CLASSIC
Magelang, November 19 - Supravee Phatam maintained his three-shot lead at the halfway mark of the US$60,000 Borobudur Classic today after shooting an even-par 72.
The young Thai golfer made an eagle on the par-five final hole at Borobudur International Golf & Country Club to put himself in a strong position in the penultimate event of the 2014/2015 season on the ASEAN PGA Tour.
His countryman Wisut Artjanawat, the ASEAN PGA’s most decorated golfer, stormed through with a 66 to sit in second place.
Thais are dominating the leaderboard as Pijit Petchkasem (67), Annop Tangkamolprasert (69), and Tanatchan Puaktes (68) are tied for third a stroke further back along with one of Indonesia’s top professionals Andik Mauluddin (70) and amateur Jo Seik (70).
The golf club is located just 20 minutes from Borobudur Temple, which is the world’s largest Buddhist temple, and Supravee certainly finished his round with divine intervention.
He struggled on the front nine and made the turn in three-over-par 33 as the result of a double bogey on five and a bogey on the eighth.
He later proceeded to birdie 13, bogey the next, follow that with back-to-back birdies before a bogey on the 17th. He then recovered once again with a much needed three on 18.
“That was certainly an up and down round. I had to work really hard all the way,” said Supravee, who is looking for his first win on the ASEAN PGA Tour.
“I could not get into my rhythm and had to battle really hard. I am really happy with the way I held it together and finished strongly.”
Supravee is on seven-under-par 137.
v Wisut has triumphed five times on the ASEAN PGA Tour, the most recent in January’s Sabah Masters.
He also claimed the Order of Merit title in 2011 and will be the hot favorite over the remaining two days.
“It is nice to be back in contention. It hasn’t been a very good year for me and after my first round 74 it looked like it may be a bad week. I played well today and importantly kept the ball out of trouble. You have to do that on this course as you can shoot big scores and some holes like I did on day one,” said Wisut.
v Thailand’s Pasamet Pogamnerd shot a 75 and is six off the lead in a tie for eighth.

Thais Take The Lead At Borobudur Classic
Magelang, November 18 - Thailand’s Supravee Phatam produced inspirational golf in harmony with his surrounds after firing a seven-under-par 65 on the opening day of the US$60,000 Borobudur Classic.
His performance broke the course record at Borobudur International Golf & Country Club, which is a short 20-minute drive from the world’s largest Buddhist temple, Borobudur.
Supravee finished the day with a healthy three-stroke lead over compatriot Pasamet Pogamnerd, in the penultimate event of the 2014/2015 season on the ASEAN PGA Tour.
Thailand’s Pasavee Lertvilai, Indonesia’s Andik Mauluddin and amateur Jo Seik , Goh Kun Yang from Singapore ended the day tied for third after returning 71s.
In stark contrast to the rest of the field Supravee did not drop any shots. He went out in three under with birdies on the first, third and ninth. Another birdie on the 10th put him in a strong position before he saved the best for last with birdies on the last three holes.
“It is a short course but narrow so you can get into trouble very easily with a big score on one hole,” said Supravee.
“I managed to stay out of trouble with a bit of luck. It will be hard to stay out of trouble all week but I will stick to the same game plan and try and repeat today’s round.”
Thailand’s Wisut Artjanawat, the winner of a record five titles on the ASEAN PGA Tour, was in the hunt for much of the day but made back-to-back double bogey sixes on 13 and 14 to slip to a 74.
This year marks the first Borobudur Classic and the tournament has been set up to assist the local golf tourism industry.
Borobudur temple, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, plays a major role in tourism and is Indonesia’s single most visited tourist attraction.

144 ASEAN Golfers Ready For The Borobudur Classic 2014
Jakarta, October 21, 2014 - A total of 144 golfers from ASEAN countries will take part in a golf tournament called the Borobudur Classic 2014 - ASEAN PGA Tour 2014 Series in Magelang, Central Java from November 17 to 21, 2014. The tournament, co-sanctioned by PGTI, is held in Magelang to support tourism in the region.
According to S.D. Darmono, CEO and founder of PT. Jababeka Tbk, it gives serious attention to the sport of golf and the tourism sector. By choosing Magelang as the location of the match, he hopes the tournament participants can visit the Borobudur temple complex which is only about 30 kilometers from the tournament location. Borobudur Temple is known as the largest Buddhist temple in the world and is a protected site by UNESCO.
In addition to visiting Borobudur, the competitors can also visit other nearby tourist attractions such as Mendut Temple or Mount Merapi. "Events such as this are able to attract international tourists to this small town in Central Java," said Darmono at the President Lounge, Menara Batavia, Jakarta, this Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the chairman of the organizing committee, Rully Lasahido of Jababeka Hospitality Management, said this tournament will become an annual event in Magelang. It will be held at Borobudur International Golf Club, which was chosen to boost the number of tourists who come to Magelang to enjoy the beauty of Borobudur and experience Javanese culture, for four days with a cash prize of US$ 60,000.
To support the event, OB Golf as the presenting sponsor contributes US$ 20,000. The magazine, explains Jimmy Masrin, reviews the sport of golf as well as lifestyle topics. Meanwhile the hotel in Magelang that supports the Borobudur Classic 2014 is Atria Hotel, which is managed by Parador Hotels & Resorts.
In closing Rully expressed his hope that next year even more competitors and sponsors will line up for this event, which would allow for even more attractive prizes.

Kurnia Herishandy Finishes 10th At PGM-ASEAN PGA Port Dickson Championship
Port Dickson, Malaysia, October 18 - Malaysia’s Lim Eng Seng beat countryman Mohd Sukree Othman at the third hole of a thrilling playoff to win the PGM-ASEAN PGA Port Dickson Championship on Saturday.
The 32-year-old Lim, a prolific winner at amateur level, birdied the 18th for the second time in the playoff to lift his first ASEAN PGA Tour title.
Lim, three shots behind overnight, burst out of the pack with two birdies in the final three holes for a closing 67 to set the clubhouse target of eight-under-par 276 at Port Dickson Golf and Country Club.
Sukree, an experienced campaigner who shared the lead going into the final round of the PGM-ASEAN PGA Melaka Championship in March before slipping down the leaderboard with a 76, took the tournament into extra holes thanks to a final round 69 that included key birdies at the 14th and 16th holes.
Both players birdied the first playoff hole and parred the second before Lim broke the deadlock with a birdie to Sukree’s par at the third extra hole.
Unheralded Thai Natthapong Niyomchon, who put himself in contention with a 65 on Friday, held the lead after three straight birdies from the ninth but a bogey at the penultimate hole saw him card a 69 and miss the playoff by a shot.
He finished equal third with Malaysia’s Mohd Azman Basharudin who bounced back from a bogey at the first with five birdies, including three in the closing four holes, for a fine 67.
Malaysia’s Kenneth De Silva, one shot ahead overnight, made a nightmarish start with bogeys at the first and third holes and did not register a birdie until the last. He carded a 72 and finished in joint fifth place with Thailand’s Pipatpong Naewsuk (70).
Indonesian Kurnia Herishandy finished with an even par round 71 for a total score of 280, which meant a deserving share of 10th place.
Thailand’s Phachara Khongwatmai, who won last year’s Singha Hua Hin Open as a 14-year-old amateur, saved his best for last with a closing seven-under-par 64 catapulting him up to 12th place.

Top Five Finish In Sight For Kurnia Herishandy At PGM-ASEAN PGA Port Dickson Championship
Port Dickson, Malaysia, October 17 - Halfway leader Kenneth De Silva of Malaysia kept his nose in front at the PGM-ASEAN PGA Port Dickson Championship on Friday despite shooting a shaky one-under-par 70 in the third round.
The 23-year-old leads by a shot from experienced campaigner Mohd Sukree Othman of Malaysia and Thailand’s Ratchapol Jantavara, who is looking for his first top-10 finish of the season on the ASEAN PGA Tour.
Unheralded Thai Natthapong Niyomchon shot up the leaderboard into joint fourth place – two shots off the pace – with a best of the day 65. He is tied with countrymen Tanatchan Puaktes (69) and Pipatpong Naewsuk, the first round pacesetter who fell back with a level-par 71.
Another round of 2 under par saw Indonesian Kurnia Herishandy climb to a tie for 7th place on the leaderboard, just 3 shots from the leader. Another good round tomorrow could propel him into a deserving PGM-ASEAN PGA Tour Ctop-5 spot.
De Silva, who came to prominence with victory in the PGM Sarawak Masters in 2012, slipped out of the lead when playing partner Pipatpong birdied the opening two holes at Port Dickson Golf and Country Club.
But the erratic Pipatpong could not hold onto the advantage with three bogeys against two birdies in five holes and was one behind De Silva, who carded two birdies and a bogey in the outward nine, at the turn.
Pipatpong, currently fifth on the 2014 Road to Sabah Masters rankings, was steadier on the back nine with eight pars and a bogey for a 71 but found himself two adrift after De Silva cancelled out two birdies with two bogeys for a total of seven-under 206.
Othman, who shared the lead going into the PGM-ASEAN PGA Melaka Championship in March before slipping down the leaderboard with a final-round 76, mixed four birdies and two bogeys to stay in touch with De Silva.
Two birdies in the closing four holes helped Ratchapol to a one-under 70 as he stayed on course for his best finish of the year.

Pagunsan Aiming To Repeat Winning Form At BSD In Indonesia PGA Championship
JAKARTA, March 10 - Filipino Juvic Pagunsan will have an ace up his sleeve when he parades his silky skills at this month’s Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.
The U.S. $1 million tournament from March 27 - 30 is being played at Damai Indah Golf’s Bumi Serpong Damai course, where Pagunsan claimed his first professional victory in 2007.
He won the Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational on the highly-rated Jack Nicklaus-designed course after blasting a final round seven-under 65 for a winning total of 19-under-par 269.
The Filipino romped home in style with a birdie on the 17th and an eagle at the par-five 18th to finish a shot ahead of India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar.
Pagunsan — joint runner up at last year’s tournament — is one of host of big name players to confirm for this month’s event, which will be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO) and is the season-opener for both circuits.
Major winners John Daly from the United States and Y.E. Yang from Korea are also taking part in the tournament, won last year by Korean Choi Ho-sung.
Pagunsan wrote a slice of history in 2011 when he became the first Filipino to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit.
While he didn’t win a tournament that year, four top-10 finishes — including runner-up at the cash-rich Barclays Singapore Open — saw him rise to the top. He had a putt to win in a play-off against Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, but just missed.
A year earlier he lifted the ASEAN PGA Tour Order of Merit trophy, helped by a memorable seven-shot victory at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand.
Pagunsan enjoyed a brilliant amateur career that saw him clean up in 2005, winning the SEA Games in Manila in both the individual and team events, as well as the national amateur Opens of the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia.
With such credentials, the 35-year-old from Canlubang Golf Club outside Manila will be one of the favorites at the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.
Situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River west of Jakarta, Bumi Serpong Damai — popularly known by locals as BSD — is framed by the upmarket housing estates of Serpong.
Enjoy Jakarta is the capital province’s tourism portal, while the Indonesia Port Corporation is a parastatal responsible for the country’s vast harbor and ship-berthing facilities scattered across the archipelago of around 18,000 islands and serving the world’s fourth most populous nation.
The tournament is promoted by World Sport Group (WSG) for a third time, with the company drawing on its vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure an outstanding event is staged.
