Bernd Wiesberger Committed To Defend Title At 2014 CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters

Jakarta, 14th November 2013 - Bernd Wiesberger will attempt to successfully defend his CIMB Niaga Niaga Indonesian Masters title from April 24 to 27, 2014, a feat that has only been achieved by Lee Westwood of England.

The Austrian, who has two victories in Europe, expressed enthusiasm to return to the Royale Jakarta Golf Club. “I'm excited to be returning to Jakarta to defend my CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters title at Royal Jakarta Golf Club, one of my favorite courses."

When Wiesberger lifted the prestigious trophy at the Royale Jakarta Golf Club last year, he promised to come back to defend his title at the Asian Tour event. "The crowds were so supportive this year, and I'm sure next year's event will be bigger and better than ever," Wiesberger added.

Asian Tour legend, Thongchai Jaidee of Thailand, a three-time Asian Tour Order of Merit winner, has also agreed to play in the US$750,000 event. Title sponsor, CIMB Niaga, has committed to invite more great players to participate in the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters 2014.

Vietnamese Billionaire Uses Jakarta Stage To Fund Asian Junior Golf Development

In an unprecedented move, Vietnamese entrepreneur turned philanthropist, Mr. Le Van Kiem, has made a substantial contribution to help establish the Asian Junior Golf Development Foundation. Mr. Le is the Chairman of the KN Vientiane Group. The announcement was made following the conclusion of the 2013 Asia Pacific Golf Summit in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"I understand the challenges that Asia's under-privileged children face in taking up the game of golf and through this foundation, I hope to be able to help aspiring young Asian talent who do not have the financial means to develop and aim for top honours in the sport of golf," Mr. Le declared.

One of Vietnam's leading entrepreneur, the billionaire has invested in a 36-hole golf course as part of the Vientiane-Long Thanh special economic zone covering an area of 557.74 ha with a total investment of US$1 billion.

The Asian Junior Golf Development Foundation will be managed by the Asia Pacific Golf Group with Mr. Le serving as its Patron.

Jakarta Will Host Campus On The Green 2013

Campus On The Green, Asia's only knowledge conference for golf course superintendents by superintendents is on the cards for a terrific landmark event this year.

Campus On The Green 2013 will be hosted by the Indonesian Golf Course Superintendents Association (ASPGI) on November 3 – 5 in Jakarta, Indonesia.

"We are proud to host Campus On The Green in Indonesia and we are confident that this event will do a lot of good for all practicing superintendents throughout the region," said Rukadi, President of ASPGI.

Jakarta To Host 2013 Asia Pacific Golf Summit

Jakarta, Indonesia - The largest nation in Southeast Asia will play host to the 2013 Asia Pacific Golf Summit (APGS). The Summit will be staged in the bustling metropolis of Jakarta, the capital city of the vast Indonesian archipelago.

The host venue for APGS 2013 will be the world-class five-star Shangri-La Hotel Jakarta, a hotel known for its exquisite ambiance and much talked about service standards.

In announcing the host nation for APGS 2013, Mike Sebastian, Chief Executive Officer of the Asia Pacific Golf Group, the owner and producer of the Summit, said: “We are absolutely excited about the selection of Indonesia as the host nation – it is a massive country that is on the move and nowhere in the region is the interest and fervor in golf more dramatic than it is in this nation, the third most populous on the planet.

“The sprawling archipelago of Indonesia is home to some of the finest golf courses in the world and it is has somehow managed to stay under the golf radar for quite some time. With the Summit, we hope to change all of this and bring Indonesia to the forefront of the golf scene in Southeast Asia.”

For those in the industry who are not at that familiar with Indonesia, it is the 15th largest economy in the world and a member of the prestigious G20 nations of the world.

It is also the largest economy in Southeast Asia registering at over US$1 trillion. “For what it’s worth, Indonesia is also the third largest democracy in the world and informed sources forecast that its economy will weigh in at US$9 trillion by 2030,” Sebastian added.

Its current population is slightly in excess of 240 million and is expected to balloon to 300 million by 2030, creating a huge middle-class segment for Indonesia.

“We are extremely delighted that the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism has received us with great encouragement and we have recognized the Ministry’s desire to want to grow golf tourism in the country,” said Sebastian, referring to the fact that Indonesia has set its sights on becoming a major player in the rapidly growing golf tourism market in the region.

APGS 2013 will be staged in Jakarta from November 5-7 and will include three major events:

• 2013 Campus On The Greens Symposium
• Inaugural Southeast Asia Club Managers’ Summit

Based on initial forecasts, some 500 delegates made up of golf course owners, operators, general managers, golf course superintendents and members of the trade are expected to register for the event.

Inaugurated in 2007 in Singapore, the Summit was staged at Mission Hills in Shenzhen, China in 2008 before moving to the Malaysian capital of Kuala Lumpur in 2009. In 2010 it was the Thai capital of Bangkok that hosted the Summit with the coastal resort town of Pattaya the venue in 2011. Last year, the Summit went to Brunei’s Empire Hotel & Country Club.

Asia Pacific Golf Summit Heads To Oil-Rich Sultanate Of Brunei

Bandar Seri Begawan (Brunei), January 26 - The 2012 Asia Pacific Golf Summit (APGS) will be staged in the oil-rich state of Brunei. European golfing legend Colin Montgomerie will be among the keynote speakers at the sixth edition of the Summit, now firmly established as one of the world’s leading business gatherings for the golf industry.

The luxurious, six-star Empire Hotel and Country Club will be the venue for the three-day Summit, from December 11-13. The facility, with its Jack Nicklaus-designed course, is a two-time winner of the Best Golf Resort in Asia Pacific category in the Asian Golf Monthly Awards.

The participation of Montgomerie, an eight-time European Tour Order of Merit champion and captain of Europe’s triumphant Ryder Cup team in 2010, is certain to add spice to the occasion.

Featuring teams captained by Japan’s Naomichi ‘Joe’ Ozaki and Spaniard Jose Maria Olazabal, the sixth Royal Trophy will take place from December 14-16, directly after the Summit.

Sebastian said: “By staging these two world-class events together, we are actually creating an unmatched golf spectacle of global proportions – the coming together of the best in a golf business event and a golf tournament.”
