The next tournament of the Bali Junior Golf Community (BJGC) will be held on Sunday 23rd September 2012 9am at their 'home course' at Bali Handara Golf & Country Club.
This time it will be a 3 Club Monte - Best ball team event. Each team must consist of one junior and one Handara caddy/staff as a player. If you don’t have a caddy from Handara that you know, one will be allocated for you.
Each player must choose just three clubs plus putter to play with. Players are able to use their putter, but other than that they must stick to the other 3 clubs they choose for the entire round. This format is designed to make the game more challenging, but also to help players practice difficult shots, learn new skills, and build up their existing skills. By restricting their club choices, players can’t rely on the perfect club for a particular shot. Instead, they must made do with the clubs they’ve chosen and figure out how to use their other abilities to sink that less-than-ideal shot.
You must register for this event if you want to play. You can do this online at http://www.balijuniorgolf.com/tournament/schedule/ or call BJGC office on (0361) 462 705.

Bali Junior Golf Community 5-Day Golf Development Camp at Bali Handara Golf Resort
Inspirational approach to kids golf
Golf is a game of integrity, character and mental fortitude and for five days, 16 selected juniors aged from 7 – 17 from Bali were given access to world class coaching at a world class course from July 18 - 22 at Bali Handara Golf Club.
Australian PGA Professional, Andrew Pitt, an elite golf coach from Australia supported juniors golfers from Bali in their respective pursuits for game development as well as game enjoyment.
His motivating approach left all attendees with the knowledge of how to develop their own golf games technically through set-up structures and ball flight variations, whilst also providing structures and routines to develop confidence as part of practice and on course play. Establishing good golf technique will have positive effects on their game for a lifetime.
The camp curriculum included: full swing mechanics, short game practice drills, review of golf jargon and etiquette. A training-intensive program complete with video analysis and on-course instruction, proper practice routines tailored to advanced junior golfers, as well as, tournament preparation.
The 16 junior golfers shared rooms, dined, practiced and played together, forming a very strong bond. Many life skills that can be applied to situations which arise both on and off the course were part of the learning experience.
Students began each day with range instruction and warm up. After lunch each day there were match play team events, best ball, worst ball, foursomes and individuals. Up for grabs was the BJGC Ryder Cup trophy. Evening activities after dinner, included Xbox golf challenge, movie night as well as a BBQ bonfire.
A strict menu was provided in order to teach the juniors the importance of eating correctly and ensuring they had the stamina to get through 8 hours of training and play. There was intentionally no rice included on the menu for the duration of the camp. Fresh fruit , health bars and lots of water were provided on the range and the course to ensure the juniors were kept hydrated and energized.
The juniors were presented with certificates of participation as well as a personal USB flash drive with their swing analysis showing their before and after swing as well as skill tests, practice schedules and drill sheets.
During the camp golf coaches and caddies from Bali Handara as well as New Kuta Golf also benefited from professional development with Coach Andrew Pitt.
Many times junior golfers must play in junior tournaments without caddies, so the opportunity to be taught by these Bali Handara caddies on the requirements of course maintenance proved to be quite an experience. These amazing caddies who were carefully selected to provide support for the juniors on course, showed the participants what is required to play golf without caddy.
BJGC would like to thank Mark Isley and his team at Bali Handara Golf and also Raja Balasingham from New Kuta Golf for their invaluable support for this truly inspirational and life changing event.
A very heartfelt thanks to Coach Andrew Pitt, who took time out of his busy teaching schedule at Bann Lynch Golf Academy at Yarra Bend Golf Course as well as his privately coached student Putu Andrew Mulyadi who acted as assistant coach, in making it such a fun experience for all involved.

BJGC Seve Ballesteros Foundation Challenge
”I'm here because golf is my sport and I like to compete, ... Just by being here I'm already beginning to win.”
Seve Ballesteros
Bali Junior Golf Community together with Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club is joining an initiative in Spain to raise funds for The Seve Ballesteros Foundation in support of Cancer Research.
The weekend of April 7th & 8th 2012 a 2-day Challenge charity tournament supporting The Seve Ballesteros Foundation will be held at Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club.
The event in Bali is part of a initiative in Spain which will see thousands of golfers at golf clubs raise money for Seve's Foundation, which funds research into brain cancer.
Golfers at Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club will tee off in their bid not only to raise money for charity, but also to try to promote junior golf in Bali as well as the mentor program for juniors which will see a team event for day 1 where 2 adults will be paired with 2 juniors.
We want to also educate our juniors from an early age about giving back through golf.
A strong field of adult and junior golfers is expected on the day, at the popular local course who always throws itself wholeheartedly behind the juniors and golf.
Bali Handara Kosaido County Club general manager Mark Isley said: "We are very honored to hold this event and support Bali Junior Golf Community as well as the Seve Ballesteros Foundation, which helps fund Cancer Research UK's world class research into brain cancer". Our members are an exceptional group of people and tremendously generous, so we look forward to a great day.".
About Seve Ballesteros
A forrmer World No.1 and winner of over 80 tournaments including five major championships, Seve Ballesteros was, for a decade, arguably the greatest golfer in the world.
Seve will always be remembered for the strength and determination he showed not only on the golf course but also in the last years of his life, as he bravely fought brain cancer.
The Seve Ballesteros Foundation Challenge 2011
On April 9, 2011 over 140 golf courses in Spain and 12,000 players participated in the "First Edition Seve Ballesteros Foundation Challenge."
The world of golf has more than responded to a project conceived and led by Seve Ballesteros for the sole purpose of raising funds to promote research on brain tumors,
Approximately 4,000 people a year in Spain and 100,000 in the world are diagnosed with brian tumors for which, at present, no cure is available.
What is The Seve Ballesteros Foundation?
In October of 2008, Seve Ballesteros collapsed at Madrid Airport. He was later diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent life saving brain surgery at La Paz hospital in Madrid. "This is the toughest match of my life," he said.
The courage and determination he had shown for 30 years on the golf course now helped him in his greatest challenge. "You must always fight, never give up." spirit, together with the skill and expertise of the surgeons at La Paz Hospital in Madrid gave him what he now calls "My second chance". After four operations Seve left hospital on 9 December 2008.
Seve Ballesteros believes he can make a difference in the fight against brain cancer. Now Seve has decided to support Cancer Research UK. The ambition is to raise significant funds for research into brain cancer. "I want to help; I want to do something to fight this disease."
Cancer Research UK is the world's largest charity dedicated to cancer research. Their doctors and scientists have contributed to 19 of the top 20 drugs used to treat cancer patients worldwide.

Bali Junior Championship Cup Tournament Results
Back to where it all started
An exciting PGI Bali Junior Golf Tournament Series Championship Cup was held on Sunday 25th September at New Kuta Golf.New Kuta Golf was where we started with the Series 1 tournament so it was a fitting end to a wonderful series of golf for the juniors in Bali. The support of New Kuta Golf for the juniors was once again turned on.
During the 5 Series which lead up to the Championship Cup the junior players played at all 5 courses in Bali.
At times home course knowledge proved to be an advantage but with many of the juniors experiencing the courses for the very first time they still manage to showed just how quickly they adapted to the new surroundings.
Once again 48 junior players displayed great ethics by arriving early, following the rules and also having fun.
The Boys Championship Cup was decided by an exciting playoff with Ananda Pidada and Andrew Mulyadi tied for first place.
The two players headed back to hole 9 deciding on who would go first by an unconventional “dum dum sut” (rock paper scissors). Ananda tees off first followed by Andrew whose ball looks like its out of bounds so he hits a provisional ball. Ananda who is known to have the coolest head on the course putted for the win. In his victory speech he said “it was his lucky day today!”
There was a nerve racking wait for the mixed championship players Meva Schmit and Jose Massana as a computer glitch forced the tournament officials to recheck the scores manually.
Both player told to prepare for a possible playoff. Ten year old Meva, obviously exhausted, was emotional but within minutes one of the officials came out to declare Meva the winner therefore avoiding the playoff.
The girls champion Yeyen Safitri wins with an amazing score of 77.
The divisional tournament players all did well with a few players playing in their very first tournament.
The inaugural series championship cup also saw the presentation of The Kang Dharma Wijaya Players of the Year Trophies, awarded to players who met the criteria set by the Committee. These players were Andrew Mulyadi, Aldo Ryanata and Jose Massana.

Bali Junior Golf Championship Cup
Mountains, Lakes, Kids & Golf
Bali August 19th 2011 - Before the Bali Junior Golf Community (BJGC) was first founded in late 2010, I asked why are there so few children playing golf in Bali? Depending on who I spoke to I would receive a different range of answers: not many kids like to play, too expensive, too hot for the children ; so after loitering at the some of the courses here in Bali ( which I would most likely be arrested for doing this in a developed country) I began to approach some adult golfers whom I knew had children, the coaches, the kids themselves and found that there in fact there were some children who played.I think I totaled about 12 names after the first week. Having two children myself I know what a great social network and grapevine they have so I asked my husband Agoes for his support and started to think if we could put some well run tournaments/programs together the kids would find us and the word would spread.
At the time PGI in Bali had no program or structure in place for the kids that I was aware of and it seemed like it was the same four or five juniors I would see at the course or at the driving range.
It was very difficult to get any information from PGI Headquaters Jakarta, whose website leaves a lot to be desired and who obviously are struggling with their own issues. Calls never returned, emails not answered so I knew I was on my own.
Luckily for me my husband had some good contacts as and so we launched the Bali Junior Golf Community Tournament 5 Series & Championship Cup with support from his old school friend Eddy Panca who also was on the PGI Bali Board and Yuda Putra.
Owning an IT company came in really handy so Agoes set up the website, Facebook site as well as the other online systems which we would require to help us run the membership database and tournaments.
As far as I knew about the junior golf in Bali really had no history and the 5 courses on the island had never worked together to grow and support the juniors as one. So I went knocking on the doors of the General Managers of all five courses- Was it easy? - no - Did I get their co-operation? - you bet! Did I ever feel like giving up? - you bet! Did I give up? - never! Did I have the support of the parents - you bet I did! I networked away calling on my clients, peers, friends and family and other parents who had kids who played golf - some who thought I had gone crazy - let you in on a little secret here I DONT PLAY GOLF!
BJGC's aim was to grow the number of children taking up golf in Bali and to promote sound honest play and good judgment based on international tournament standards for juniors. We wanted to provide a positive experience for all concerned and to allow our juniors to grow as a player and a person and of course to have a fun. Did we succeed – You make up your own mind up…..just read on.
Fast forward to August 2011 and Bali Junior Golf's 5th Series is to be held at Bali Handara Koisaido Country Club. We had our biggest field of players - 50 juniors that would be starting - now remember those early numbers of juniors just over a year ago 4, 5,12.
Many juniors and their parents drove up the hill from the south and stayed the weekend. Practice day there was a TaylorMade demo organized by the Energizer Bunny a.k.a. Mr Mark Isley the new General Manager of Bali Handara Kosiado Country Club (BHKCC).
One of the junior parents and recreational golfer Benny Raj who runs Bali Catering Company organized the amazing BBQ & Bonfire for Saturday night, where the junior golf community came together like never before – remember it’s all about the kids and supporting them. Mark and his great team ran the Putting and Chipping competition. Prizes were donated by Golf House, BHKCC and Ruci Golf. The guys that run Ruci Sport & Golf who are aged in their twenties are great ambassadors for junior golfers as well as good role models. Unfortunately - some of the better junior golfers who are on the national team were no-where to be seen!
Sunday morning - tournament day, juniors turned up collected their player badges just as the fog was rolling up the 18th fairway which was a stunning site, they were briefed by Mr Eddy Panca our Rules Official and off they went to face tee placements and pins positions which would prove a challenge during the day. Once again the field's pace of play was great and the juniors did not hold up any of the regular members and guests who were out there playing. Fifty juniors out there playing golf on a spectacular course showing good sportsmanship and discipline and most importantly having fun.
Another successful day - you bet! We now have 77 juniors on our database – so we hope PGI will now take note. These juniors do not expect goodie bags and lucky door prizes they just want to play golf and have fun in a safe and nurturing environment with a people who care.
The 2011 Championship Cup will be held back at New Kuta Golf on Sunday 25th September where we will crown our inaugural Boys Champion (A & B) , Girls Champion (A & B) and Mixed Champion (C & D) as well as player of the series.

Playing Under Harsh Conditions - Kids & Golf
This past weekend forty two junior golfers took their A game to Balibeach Golf Course to compete in the PGI Bali Junior Golf Tournament Series 2
Dark clouds awaited the Junior Players on Sunday morning as they arrived at 6am at Balibeach Golf Course Sanur. It looked like the rain may disappear by the time the juniors were ready to tee off at 7am, but not long after the shotgun start the heavens opened up and 42 junior players whose ages ranged from 17 – 8 years old took their umbrellas out and soldiered on under difficult conditions.
This series introduced for the first time the 3 hole challenge which was open to boys and girls across a range of age groups who have been having lessons at various courses and driving ranges such as: Balibeach Golf Course Sanur, Ancora Golf Institute at Bali Golf and Country Club Nusa Dua and New Kuta Golf Pecatu, for children who had never played 9 holes of golf. There were 12 juniors who teed off in this open division showing tremendous effort while facing a few challenges with the wet weather that would have sent the average Sunday golfer running for cover.
Heavy rain soon interrupted play with Tournament Director Eddy Panca suspending play for about 1 hour. The 42 juniors taking cover at the club house were soaking wet but their spirits were not dampened! They waited it out until Panca announced play would resume at 9.30am.
Balibeach Golf Course presents a great golfing challenge and is more about being accurate with your shots and on a day punctuated with heavy rain and winds, we still had some great scores returned.
The juniors from all Divisions displayed great stamina as play continued in water soaked fairways and heavy bunkers.
Trophies were sponsored by Raffles Golf Club based out of New Kuta Golf Course and were presented to all winners by Chairman Mark Watson at a presentation lunch which also included a fun quiz with lots of fun giveaways.
Bali Junior Golf Community wishes to thank PGI Bali, Balibeach Golf Course and in particular General Manager Made Suartana and his team. A big thank you for moral support from Raja Balasingham General Manager, Golf Pro / Coach Sean Williams from New Kuta Golf Pecatu.
Coach Rob Turvey from Ancora Golf Institute at Bali Golf and Country Club Nusa Dua.

Bali Junior Golf Tournament
PGI Bali together with Bali Junior Golf Community, will be holding the first Bali Junior Golf Tournament Series in Bali with the support of all five golf courses in Bali. Over 30 junior boys and girls aged from 8 - 17 are registered with players from Bali, Jakarta, Sulawesi, Surabaya and Perth - Australia will tee off at New Kuta Golf on Sunday 30th January 2011.
The tournament will be played on 18 holes Stroke Play Gross. The players will compete in 4 age group categories: 15-17 years old, 13-14 years old, 11-12 years old and below 10 years old.
We are encouraging juniors to enter all 5 tournaments which will earn them points towards the PGI Bali Junior Championship Cup to be held at the end of the five tournaments later in the year.
The PGI Bali Junior Golf Tournament 5 Series & The Bali Junior Championship Cup 2011 was initiated by PGI Bali as well as individual golfers who would like to see more children taking up the game in Bali. The concept behind the tournaments beside the competition aspect is also an educational one, where we be able to nurture some of the younger players in the area of rules, etiquette and sportsmanship at an international level whilst allowing them to experience playing at all five of the courses in Bali. With the collaborative effort by all five courses in Bali, as well as PGI Bali, The PGI Bali Junior Golf Tournament 5 Series & The Bali Junior Championship Cup 2011 will kick off on Sunday 30th January at New Kuta Golf.
Bali Junior Golf Community?s Mission is to provide a warm, caring, safe environment for young juniors in an ideal setting where they can gain social education, an understanding of Golf etiquette and sportsmanship as they grow. We want to be able to offer an opportunity where juniors can have inter school competitions as well as weekend club competition in addition to the tournaments and Family Fun Days and many other club programs for the juniors to participate in.
Any child that has a flair for golf needs to be given the opportunity to become another Aaron Bradley, Adam Scott, KJ Choi or Karie Webb or even Tiger Woods.
Parents have a major role to play and with their support and enthusiasm they can be a catalyst, ensuring a successful junior golf situation.
Sponsors are also an important element in the promotion of junior golf and we would like to acknowledge the support of our sponsors.
The involvement of all of these elements as critical to making Junior Golf a success in Bali.
