Two Winners Of The Jack Nicklaus International Invitational 2016 To Go To Ohio

Tangerang Selatan, 16 March - National amateur golfers Edwin Abeng and Jayadi will represent Indonesia at the 10th Jack Nicklaus International Invitational (JNII) Tournament of Champions 2016. The tournament will be held at the New Albany Country Club in Columbus, Ohio, United States, where they will have a chance to meet legendary golfer Jack Nicklaus.

Edwin and Jayadi got this opportunity after winning the Jack Nicklaus International Invitational 2016 amateur tournament held at the Damai Indah Golf-BSD Course in Tangerang, Banten.

Edwin Abeng won the Best Gross Overall title with a score of 75, while Jayadi won the Best Net Overall with 69, allowing them to advance to the final rounds in Columbus.

The annual tournament, now in its tenth year, is held in six countries; Italy, the Philippines, South Korea, Switzerland, the United States and Indonesia.

Jack Nicklaus, also known by golf enthusiasts as the Golden Bear, is a living legend with a record 18 major titles, 55 PGA Tour championship wins as well as 43 titles on other tours throughout a professional career of 25 years from 1962 to 1986.

The JNII 2016 saw the participation of 106 golfers who are all loyal customer of Jack Nicklaus. The Damai Indah Golf-BSD Course was designed by the legend himself and opened for play in 1992. It is an international course with a length of 6,545 meters.

We want to give an exclusive opportunity to local golfers and our loyal Jack Nicklaus customers to play a signature Jack Nicklaus design course in competitive tournament environment. The participants have the opportunity to win big prizes, a VIP tour to represent the country at the Tournament of Champions with a value of USD 9.775 (for 2 winners), that will be held in June", explained Damayanti Iriani, Marketing Communications at PT Trisula International, the license holder of the Jack Nicklaus apparel brand in Indonesia..

The winners of the JNII 2016 will there also have the dream opportunity to dine with Nicklaus. "Not only that, they will also watch the Memorial Tournament live at Muirfield Village Golf Club," added Damayanti.

Winning the Jack Nicklaus International Invitational is an unforgettable experience, as was witnessed by Andre Atmadji when he won the tournament in 2015.

"It was an impressive experience to have the opportunity to watch one of the biggest tournaments on the calendar, the Memorial. There i was able to meet with top players like Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler, Jason Day and so many others. And I will never forget the moment when I had the opportunity to meet with the legendary Jack Nicklaus himself", said the runner up of the Jack Nicklaus International Invitational Final 2015 in Ohio, USA.

In the tournament final, that uses the Best Ball (foursome) format. Andre, together with Ian Sugianto, managed to finish second with the same score (-2) as the winners from South Korea, who beat them for the grand prize on count back. But they were still proud to represent Indonesia as runners up at the JNII Final Tournament of Champions 2015.

Indonesia PGA Championship Returns To BSD

Jakarta, May 5 = The Indonesia PGA Championship will showcase the leading players from OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO) when it returns to the award-winning Damai Indah Golf – Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) this year.

The tournament, which was inaugurated with great success in 2011, will be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the JGTO for the third successive year and form part of an exciting swing on both circuits.

Damai Indah Golf – BSD Course, which boasts the first Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Indonesia, will host the tournament from July 30 to August 2.

Japan’s Michio Matsumura birdied the last three holes to win the Indonesia PGA Championship March last year. The 31-year-old posted rounds of 65, 67, 67 and 68 to finish 21-under-par and claim the US$180,000 first prize.

“This will be the fourth staging of the Indonesia PGA Championship under the OneAsia banner and we have seen it grow in stature during that time,” said Johannes Dermawan, Chairman of the PGA Tour of Indonesia.

“We witnessed a thrilling finish last year involving players from Japan, Australia, the Philippines and China reflecting the cosmopolitan makeup of the field. The Indonesia PGA Championship also affords several local players the opportunity to test themselves against Australasia’s finest and gives fans the chance to see top-quality golf.”

OneAsia Commissioner and Chairman Sung Y. Chun said that the partnership with the JGTO had borne fruit at the Indonesia PGA Championship.

“The presence of leading players from the JGTO at the Indonesia PGA Championship has taken the tournament to a new level and bred a healthy rivalry with our members,” he said.

“I am confident that the Indonesia PGA Championship will once again play an important role in the OneAsia season.”

Damai Indah Golf, the brainchild of well-known Indonesian real estate developer and business baron, Ir. Ciputra, consists of two international championship courses in completely different and challenging surroundings: BSD Course, located in the West Java satellite city of BSD; and PIK Course, located along the Java Sea in North Jakarta.

Among Jakarta golfers the BSD Course is commonly referred to as BSD. It is situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River that is back-dropped by the up-market housing estates of Bumi Serpong Damai.

Korean Choi Ho-sung drained an eight-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a two-stroke victory in the Indonesian PGA Championship at Emeralda Golf Club in 2013.

And in 2011, Australian Andre Stolz beat Indonesian number one Rory Hie by one shot at Imperial Klub Golf.

Ali Upstages Tamardi In Faldo Series Indonesia Championship

Jakarta, January 15 - Faraby Ali held his nerve to upstage in-form Tirto Tamardi and claim top honors in the eighth Faldo Series Indonesia Championship.

Thanks to a closing two-under-par 70 over Damai Indah Golf’s BSD Course near Jakarta, Ali overturned a one-stroke overnight deficit and edged out defending champion Tamardi.

It was a fine performance from Ali who posted a 54-hole aggregate of one-under-par 215 in the 18th leg of the record-breaking 2014-2015 Faldo Series Asia season.

That was one shot ahead of 15-year-old Tamardi who was a model of consistency throughout, signing for three rounds of even-par 72.

Although Tamardi was unable to retain his title, he will be part of a five-strong Indonesian contingent that will contest the ninth Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, an R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking event to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo at Mission Hills Shenzhen in March.
[Left to right]: Faldo Series Indonesia Championship age group winners Ida Ayu Melati, Rivani Adelia Sihotang, Faraby Ali, Fadhli Rahman Soetarso and Tirto Tamardi

Fadhli Rahman Soetarso flourished in the Boys’ Under-18 Division, securing first place following a sudden-death play-off against M. Seandy Alfarabi.

Among the females, Ida Ayu Melati was a runaway winner in the Girls’ Under-21 Division. She set the tone with a solid opening 72 and never looked in danger of relinquishing her early advantage.

It was a closer contest in the Girls’ Under-16 Division with Rivani Adelia Sihotang holding off a brave last-round fightback from Inez Beatrice Wanamarta. Five shots in arrears heading into the final day, Wanamarta closed with a 74, reducing Sihotang’s margin of victory to two strokes.

But making light of a thunder delay on day one and a 45-minute stop for torrential rain on day two it was the performance of Ali that caught the eye as he won the Boys’ Under-21 Division for the second year in succession. This year, though, he showed a marked improvement, bettering his score from 2014 by no fewer than 12 strokes.

Six-time Major champion Sir Nick, Britain’s most successful golfer, said: “To improve by 12 shots from last year is an outstanding effort from Faraby Ali. His victory will, I’m sure, give him plenty of confidence as he prepares for the forthcoming Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.”

Supported by The R&A and Mission Hills and endorsed by the Asian Tour and the Asia Pacific Golf Confederation, the 2014-15 Faldo Series Asia campaign stretches over 11 months and is made up of 19 championships.

Recognised as the only global amateur series for boys and girls, the Faldo Series was established in 1996, expanding to Asia in 2006.

Today, 40 Faldo Series tournaments take place in 30-plus countries worldwide, touching more than 7,000 golfers each year. Past winners include Tseng Ya-ni and Rory McIlroy, who took his tally of professional Major titles to four with his wins at last year’s Open Championship and US PGA Championship.

Tamardi Set For Faldo Series Indonesia Championship Defence

Jakarta, January 8 - Highly-rated teenager Tirto Tamardi will be the player to beat when the eighth edition of the Faldo Series Indonesia Championship tees-off this weekend.

Following a succession of outstanding performances alongside the region’s leading professionals in recent months, the 15-year-old from Surabaya is already being touted as a star of the future.

But Tamardi’s immediate focus is simply to retain the Faldo Series Indonesia Championship title he won at a canter last year.

Since his seven-stroke success over Damai Indah Golf’s BSD Course in West Java exactly 12 months ago, Tamardi has enjoyed a memorable sequence.

Among the many highlights were a top-10 finish in September’s PGM MNRB Sarawak Championship, an Asian Development Tour event featuring a host of seasoned Asian professionals.

Tamardi also had the distinction of being one of only two amateurs to make the half-way cut in last month’s Bank BRI Indonesia Open, a fully-fledged Asian Tour event won by Irishman Padraig Harrington over Damai Indah’s PIK Course.

Those experiences are sure to stand Tamardi in good stead as he attempts to secure a return trip to Mission Hills China for the ninth Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, to be hosted by Sir Nick Faldo in March.

Tamardi will certainly be drawing on the memory of his brilliant performance last year when an opening nine-under-par 63 set him on course for a runaway victory.

He said: “Winning tournaments will always be the best experience. The one that I won’t forget was when I won the Faldo Series Indonesia last year. I had the lowest scores and that was one of the greatest experiences for me.”

Speaking ahead of the 18th leg of the record-breaking 2014-2015 Faldo Series Asia season, six-time Major championship winner Sir Nick, Britain’s most successful golfer, said: “Tirto is clearly a talented player who has already proved that he has both the game and the temperament to succeed.

“I will be following closely his progress at Damai Indah in what promises to be another exciting tournament.”

William Sjaichudin Claims Second Place In Ciputra GolfPreneur Tournament At BSD

Jakarta, August 24 - James Byrne of Scotland produced a grandstand finish when he holed a remarkable eagle on the last to win the US$100,000 Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament by three shots on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Byrne fired three birdies in each half and sealed the deal with a 40-foot eagle putt for a flawless eight-under-par 64 to bag his second Asian Development Tour (ADT) title at the Damai Indah Golf, BSD Course.

Tour rookie William Sjaichudin (65) raised local cheers by claiming his best result on the ADT tied second alongside overnight leader Brett Munson (70) of the United States on 274.

Malaysia’s Arie Irawan (70), Nils Floren (67) of Sweden, Anura Rohana (68) of Sri Lanka and Annop Tangkamolprasert (67) of Thailand finished a further shot back in tied fourth in the inaugural ADT event.

Byrne, a former Walker Cup star, was delighted to return into the winners’ circle after enduring a frustrating 2013 Asian Tour season where he lost his Tour card.

He hopes that his victory in Indonesia, which pushed him to eighth position on the ADT Order of Merit, will be a sign of better things to come as he aims to finish inside the top-five on the Merit rankings at the end of the season to regain an Asian Tour card for 2015.

“This is by far my most satisfying win,” smiled the dashing Byrne, who prior to his victory only made three cuts in eight appearances on the ADT this season.

“I didn’t play well on the Asian Tour to keep my card and I’ve been disappointed that I haven’t been closer to the top-five on the ADT Order of Merit. Hopefully this win will change things,” said Byrne, who won US$17,500 and earned six Official World Golf Ranking points.

“I’ve been playing so badly and at some point, you think on what you have been doing with your career. I’ve been working on the right things and change doesn’t happen immediately. I knew what I was doing in practice and I was confident the scores will improve,” he added.

Indonesia’s Sjaichudin overcame his initial jitters by shooting four birdies and one bogey in his opening six holes before adding four birdies on his homeward nine to enjoy his best placing on the ADT since turning professional early in 2014.

“I was very nervous in the first four holes because I haven’t been in this position for a long time. I think it was a good thing to have pressure because I was more focused. I will definitely play in more ADT events to gain more experience,” said the 23-year-old.

Starting this season, the ADT will reward the top five players on the final Order of Merit with playing rights for the 2015 Asian Tour season.

This is a significant boost for aspiring professionals on the ADT as it is the highest number of Asian Tour cards up for grabs since the burgeoning Tour was inaugurated as a gateway to the Asian Tour in 2010. Only the top three players on the final ADT Order of Merit for each season obtained their Asian Tour cards in the past.

Leading fourth round scores:

Turner Aiming For Second ADT Win On Indonesian Soil At Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament

Jakarta, August 22 - Niall Turner of Ireland launched his bid for a second win in Indonesia by shooting a five-under-par 67 to share the second round lead with Michael Moore of Australia in the inaugural Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament on Friday.

Turner, who won his first Asian Development Tour (ADT) title last month in Jakarta, traded six birdies against one bogey for an eight-under-par 136 total which was matched by Moore, who fired a superb 65 in the US$100,000 ADT event.

Ye Jian-feng of China and Thai brothers Sattaya and Poosit Supupramai registered 69, 68 and 70 respectively to share third place at the Damai Indah Golf, BSD Course. Overnight leader James Byrne of Scotland stumbled to a 74 to tie in sixth place with Jake Stirling of Australia and Annop Tangkamolprasert on 138.

Best local player is William Sjaichudin who carded a 70 today for a 141 total, which puts him in a halfway tie for 17th place. Meanwhile Indonesia's top players George Gandranata (74) and Rory Hie (74) both missed the cut by one and 4 shots respectively.

Turner continues to play some of his best golf after undergoing surgery to recover from a hip injury which hampered his golf career for several years. His only blemish of the day came after a three-putt on the sixth hole but he recovered brilliantly courtesy of his sharp-shooting approach shots.

“I played great and I didn’t seem to miss the green. Everything worked for me. I’ve been hitting the ball really good lately so it is great to be leading again,” said the 31-year-old Turner.

“I really enjoy Jakarta. I won my first ADT title here and it is nice to be back. Everything about the country is nice. It isn’t too warm here as well so I feel comfortable out on the course,” he explained.

Moore shot the lowest round of the day courtesy of an eagle three on the fourth hole which he holed from five feet after hitting a solid five iron from 191 metres. He was delighted to be in contention for a first ADT win.

“It was a pretty steady round. The wind picked up today but I played a lot of smart golf. Obviously it was a good eagle and I was glad to birdie two of my last three holes to share the lead,” said Moore.

Byrne, a former Walker Cup star and a winner on the ADT, slipped down the leaderboard after carding three birdies against three bogeys and one double bogey.

“I didn’t hole as many putts as I did in the first round. I wasn’t expecting to shoot another 64 but I was trying to shoot under par. There is a low score on this golf course but you have to be careful where you place your shots,” said the 25-year-old Byrne.

The halfway cut was set at one-over-par 145 with a total of 52 players progressing into the weekend rounds.

Leading second round scores:

136 – Niall TURNER (IRL) 69 67, Michael MOORE (AUS) 71 65

137 – YE Jian-feng (CHN) 68 69, Sattaya SUPUPRAMAI (THA) 69 68, Poosit SUPUPRAMAI (THA) 67 70

138 – Jake STIRLING (AUS) 68 70, James BYRNE (SCO) 64 74, Annop TANGKAMOLPRASERT (THA) 69 69

ADT Hopefuls Line Up For Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament

Jakarta, August 11 - Talented ADT stars from over 22 countries will battle for honors at the US$100,000 Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament which makes its debut on the Asian Development Tour (ADT) from August 21 to 24.

The inaugural event, which will be played at the BSD course by Damai Indah Golf, will raise this season’s events to a record total of 20 on the burgeoning Tour. The Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament will be the 13th stop on the ADT schedule and the second tournament to be held in Jakarta this season.

Gandranata, who claimed his first top-10 result on the ADT in Chinese Taipei last week, is excited with the new event, where he hopes to challenge for his first ADT victory.

“Having a new ADT tournament in Indonesia is definitely good for local players like me because we get more exposure from playing in international events. It was a great experience playing with established golfers in Chinese Taipei two weeks ago. Hopefully I can bring forward the good momentum to the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament,” said the 28-year-old.

Ir. Ciputra, founder and chairman of Ciputra Business Group as well as sponsor of the inaugural Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament, said: “We are excited with the launch of the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament and we are honoured to be involved with the ADT for the first time.

“On behalf of our talented players, I would like to express our fullest appreciation to Mr. Ciputra and the PGTI for their support of professional golf in Asia. We are privileged to welcome the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament on the ADT Schedule and we hope to unearth many more rising stars of the game through this new and exciting event,” said Irfan.

“We’re very delighted to partner with Ir. Ciputra as well as the ADT for this inaugural Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament which I am sure will play a key role in shaping the growth of the sport in the country,” said Dermawan.

Apart from the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament and Jakarta Classic on the ADT, there are two other events staged in Indonesia on the Asian Tour schedule, the CIMB Niaga Indonesian Masters which was held in April and the Indonesia Open which is scheduled to be played from December 4 to 7.

Starting this season, the ADT will reward the top five players on the final Order of Merit with playing rights on the 2015 Asian Tour season.

This is a significant boost for aspiring professionals on the ADT as it is the highest number of Asian Tour cards up for grabs since the burgeoning Tour was inaugurated as a gateway to the Asian Tour in 2010. A total of 144 players will compete in the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament, with the field being split between the ADT and the newly established Professional Golf Tour of Indonesia (PGTI).

Asian Tour Chairman Kyi Hla Han expressed his delight on the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament coming on board as the newest tournament on the burgeoning ADT this season.

“Playing on the ADT will be a good stepping stone for aspiring golfers in the region to move on to the Asian Tour. With the launch of the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament, I believe Indonesian players will definitely benefit from the ADT platform,” said Han.

“I would also like to express our fullest appreciation to Mr. Ciputra and the PGTI for taking this initiative to launch the Ciputra Golfpreneur Tournament,” he added.

Starting this season, the ADT will reward the top five players on the final Order of Merit with playing rights in the 2015 Asian Tour season.

Indonesia Wins Girls Overall, Thailand Boys At Enjoy Jakarta Workd Junior Golf Championship

JAKARTA, 6 JUNE -- An Indonesian golfer managed to win one of the prestigious titles, the individual title for All Girls' Classes, at the the 20th Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship (EJWJGC) supported by Ciputra Group. Rivani Adelia Sihotang won the title over Kanyalak Preedasuttijit (THA), the defending champion from last year, at Damai Indah Golf, BSD course.

Rivani, who is in Class-B Girls (13-14 years old), played beautifully by scoring 3 under in the last round. That score made her total score 5-under (211; 73, 69, 69)Princess Mary Superal (PHI) and Kanyalak from Class-A Girls both scored 216 (1-under), and Paphankorn Tavatanakit from Class-B Girls scored 214 (2-under).

"I am very happy today that I won, because other golfers that I have to face are indeed excellent," said Rivani. "Nonetheless, since the beginning I have confidence that I can win. And I felt that confidence again when playing the last hole, 'I think I will win'. Just like that, I don't why I felt that all the sudden." The title is the first International title that she won.

Meanwhile, for Boys Individual, Japanese golfer Ryo Toyoyama won the "battle" over Thanakorn Torsee (THA). As both had the same result, a decision had to be made through a play-off, and Ryo finally won the title after scoring birdie on hole 18 while Thanakorn only scored par.

"I was so nervous when I started today. But when I reached hole 8, I got my confidence back," said Ryo. After making bogey on hole 3, Ryo made another bogey on hole 8. After that, his game was relatively stable by scoring birdie in hole 9, 15, 17 and 18. He admitted that the positive result was due to his good iron play. In addition, he was motivated to win in his second time joining EJWJGC.

Except for the Individual title, Thailand still maintained the team titles. The Boys Team for Thailand, Parathakorn Suyasri (Class-B Boys) and Thanakorn Torsee (Class-A Boys) became the winners of the Boys Team title. This year the 20th Enjoy Jakarta World Junior Golf Championship supported by Ciputra Group prepared a special title named Ciputra Trophy in honor of the founder of the tournament. The title is awarded to the player with the lowest score from all classes Boys and Girls (Best of The Best). This year the trophy went to Thitaporn Saithip from Thailand with an impressive total score of 208 (67, 71 and 70) or 8 under.

Not only for team titles, Thailand also dominated almost all individual classes for Boys and Girls. Thanakorn won Class-A Boys, followed by Rupert Zaragosa (PHI) with the total score 287 (1 under) and Joeh Se Ik (KOR) with the total score of 288 (par).

The Class-B Boys was also dominated by Thai golfers. Kritchayapol Sinchai was the winner with a total score of 287 (1-under), followed by Puwit Anupansuebsai with a total score of 290 (2-over) and Aidric Chan from Philippines in 3rd place with the total score 293 (5-over).

In Class-A Girls, Princes Mary Superal from Philippines became the winner. The winner of 2 gold medals in the SEA Games, she closed her game with a convincing score of 68 (4-under). Even though she collected the same total score (215) as Kanyalak (THA), Superal won on count back. Kanyalak scored 73 in the last round (1-over), so she had to accept 2nd place. The 3rd position was taken by Japanese junior golfer Nasa Hataoka with a total score 218 (2-over).

In Class-B Girls a Thai golfer again took the winning spot. Paphankorn Tavatanakit, the defending champion of EJWJGC 2013, led the leaderboard for the last 3 days and closed the tournament with a total score of 214 (2-under), 8 strokes ahead of Sara Ota (JAP) who scored 222, and 11 strokes ahead of Inez Beatrice Wanamarta (INA) who scored 225 for 3rd position.

Thrilling Showdown On Final Day Of The Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, March 30 - Japan’s Michio Matsumura birdied the last three holes to snatch victory by a shot on Sunday in a rain-interrupted final round of U.S. $1 million Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

The 31-year-old had rounds of 65, 67, 67 and 68 to finish 21 under par around Damai Indah Golf’s 6,545-metre (7,160-yard) Bumi Serpong Damai course to claim the $180,000 first prize at a tournament co-sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour.

Australian Rhein Gibson (62) and Filipino Juvic Pagunsan (69) shared second place, while China’s Wu Ashun (69) was alone in fourth.

Matsumura trailed overnight leader Park Sang-hyun by a shot going into the final round and looked to have blown his chance after starting with a bogey and then doubling the sixth. But six birdies on a blistering back nine -- none better than on the 17th when he drained a 24-footer -- saw him home.

A three-time winner previously on the Japan Tour, Matsumura said he was delighted to win abroad for the first time.

“It has been my dream since I became a professional to win a tournament outside Japan,” he said. “It is a great honor to win this title at such a beautiful course.”

Gibson had set the pace much earlier in day with a scorching 62 that equaled the course record set by Gaganjeet Bhullar in 2007.

The 28-year-old, a graduate of OneAsia Q-School in 2013, is the official world record holder of the lowest ever score by a professional -- a 17-under-par 55 he managed at River Oaks Golf Club in his adopted home of Oklahoma -- but Sunday’s round was a career best in a sanctioned tournament.

Gibson, who finished fourth at OneAsia’s Emirates Australian Open last year to earn one of three slots available to Britain’s 2014 Open Championship, had an eagle, ten birdies and two bogeys in an astonishing round that was interrupted when he was on the 17th for nearly three hours by a sudden thunderstorm.

“I had some good yardages and just hit it to within a couple of feet,” he said. “I had some really cheap birdies and that’s what really got me going.”

Bogeys on 10 and 14 saw Pagunsan, a winner here in 2007, slip out of contention, but he birdied three of the last four holes to bounce back into contention.

“It just wasn’t going to be the day today,” he said.

The leading Korean finisher was fifth-placed Maeng Dong-seop (65) who closed at 17 under par, while leading local player George Gandranata (71) had a share of 37th at nine under.

OneAsia’s next event is the 20 million Yuan (around $3.2 million) Volvo China Open at Genzon Golf Club from April 24 - 27.

Scores after Round 4 of the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation, being played at the 6,545-metre (7,160-yard) Damai Indah Golf BSD course (par 72):

George Gandranta And Andik Mauludin Only Local Players Making The Cut At Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship

AKARTA, March 28 - Korean Park Sang-hyun, Filipino Juvic Pagunsan and Japan’s Ryuko Tokimatsu shot matching eight-under-par 64s on Friday to share the lead after two rounds of the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

After opening with 67s, the trio are now 13-under around Damai Indah Golf’s 6,545-metre (7,160-yard) Bumi Serpong Damai course in pursuit of their first OneAsia or Japan Tour title as the U.S. $1 million tournament is co-sanctioned by both.

Japan’s Michio Matsumura (67) is a shot behind, while Ouyang Zheng eagled the last to grab sole fifth place at 11 under with a 67. Aussie Rhein Gibson (75) -- holder of the world record low score by a professional -- was at 10 under with Chinese teenager Li Haotong.

Park, who celebrated his son’s first birthday on Friday, was delighted with his effort despite feeling his driving was not up to scratch.

“My boy is one year old today so this is for him,” said 30-year-old, whose only blemish was a bogey on the fifth. “My target today was to make a birdie on every par five and I managed to do that. My putting was also very good, so I am happy.”

Pagunsan, a winner at this course in 2007, also credited a hot putter for his blistering round.

“The greens are very different from when I won here -- they go up and down a lot more -- but I managed to put it close and that was important today,” he said.

The runner-up at this event last year, Pagunsan said he has spent more time on his physical fitness this year in a bid to go one better.

“I am in much better shape this year,” the 35-year-old said. “I hope I can get the results to show for the work.”

Playing in the afternoon, Tokimatsu set up his great round with some devastating tee shots -- he has only missed one fairway in two days -- and thinks he can go even lower.

“I’m very pleased, but for the weekend I want to do better,” he said.

The round of the day belonged to Aussie rookie Jack Wilson who fired nine birdies in his career-best 63, to offset an opening-round 73.

“I hit it good yesterday but couldn't buy a putt,” he said. ”Today was one of those rounds that is out of the box. I hit it really good again, and my local caddie came up with some great reads -- which certainly helped in making the majority of my birdies.”

With the cut at minus three, headline act Y.E. Yang, Asia’s only Major winner, just squeezed in after a second-round 67 left him at four under.

Defending champion Choi Ho-sung, however, took an early flight home after his Friday 67 saw him finish two under for the tournament, while nothing went local hero Rory Hie’s way and he closed at plus four after rounds of 75 and 73.

The best of the local players was George Gandranata (67) who is at four under under, while overnight leader Gareth Paddison (74) of New Zealand was at minus six. Andik Mauludin is the only other local player who made the cut, squeezing into the weekend after a round of 74.

Kiwi Leads After FIrst Round Of The Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, March 27 - New Zealander Gareth Paddison bagged two eagles on his way to a brilliant eight-under-par 64 on Thursday to grab the clubhouse lead midway through the opening round of the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

The left-hander could have gone even lower if not for a bogey on his last hole -- the ninth -- but holds a one-stroke lead over Japan’s Kunihiro Kamii and Australian David McKenzie, with three others a shot further back.

The U.S. $1 million tournament at at Damai Indah Golf’s stunning Jack Nicklaus-designed Bumi Serpong Damai course is the season opener for both OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour, with the winner grabbing a $180,000 slice of the purse.

Paddison has already shown some form this year having won on the PGA Tour of Australasia, but he was nevertheless surprised with his first-round effort.

“It was a bit out of left field, actually. I didn’t expect that of myself,” the 33-year-old said. ”I putted exceptionally well -- played really steady really -- and and all of a sudden you’re standing on the last hole at nine under. It was a pity about that last one.”

Paddison eagled the par five fifth and 18th in similar fashion, hitting driver and four iron to the green before draining putts of 20 and 35 feet respectively.

The Kiwi has been a professional for 12 years but has never won a tournament of this stature and is keen to take his game to the next level.

“I think I have made really big improvements recently thanks to a lot of work with my coach Dennis McDade,” he said. “I really want to step it up this year. I want big things to happen.”

McKenzie was also pleased with his effort on his first serious outing of the year after a bout of tendinitis.

“I played in the pro-am and didn’t think these sorts of scores were out there, but while the greens are very tricky, if you get it in the right place you can leave yourself with some make-able putts,” he said.

Kamii is also looking for his first win on a top-tier tour and could have had a share of the lead if not for a costly bogey on the relatively easy par-five 18th after putting his tee shot in the water.

“I am a bit angry about that,” said the 32-year-old from Osaka, “but I am still happy with my round.”

Several OneAsia champions kept themselves well in the hunt with excellent first rounds including Michael Hendry (67), four-time winner Liang Wenchong (67), and 2012 Order of Merit winner Kim Bi-o (68) -- who triple-bogeyed the eighth.

China’s Ouyang Zheng (66) and Li Haotong (67) also put in a great effort, while Prom Meesawat was top of the Thai contingent with a 69.

Two local players, Asep Saefulloh and Andik Mauludin, put in good rounds, with both carding a round of 67 which puts them in a share of 8th place. Jordan Irawan is 2 shots further back in a tie for 34th, with Danny A. Wdjajaya, Bramantio Adi and George Gandranata the only other local players under par after round 1.

The collaboration between OneAsia and the Japan Tour means the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by the Indonesia Port Corporation, had drawn one of the strongest fields ever assembled in the world’s fourth most populous nation -- headlined by Major winner Y.E. Yang, who was in the afternoon session.

Hometown Hero Rory Hie Eyes Jakarta Victory

JAKARTA, March 25 - Home favorite Rory Hie has set his sights on a first OneAsia win in 2014, and where better to do it than at this week’s season-opening Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

The gifted 25-year-old came close to claiming the title when finishing second to Andre Stolz by a stroke at the 2011 edition of the tournament — he also finished joint runner-up at the Indonesia Open that year — and has shown he thrives in front of a home crowd.

“I always love playing in Indonesia,” said Hie, who won two out of three legs of the Road to the Panasonic Open series in Jakarta last year and also had a top-10 finish in the capital just last month on the Asian Development Tour.

With all the creature comforts of home and doting parents Tommy and Rita, Hie will be able to devote his full attention to the U.S. $1 million tournament taking place at Damai Indah Golf’s Bumi Serpong Damai course, which promises a set-up to test the mettle of one of the classiest fields ever assembled in the world’s fourth most-populous country.

Fully co-sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour and OneAsia, the best players from both circuits will be be in attendance as well as Y.E. Yang, Asia’s only Major champion.

The winners of every Order of Merit since OneAsia’s founding in 2009 have confirmed their entries, as have multiple Japan Tour winners such as Shingo Katayama, Hiroyuki Fujita, Yuta Ikeda and Yoshinori Fujimoto.

Hie’s phenomenal showing in his rookie season in 2011 has yet to transform into a OneAsia win, but the former world top-10 amateur is determined to make the step-up.

“I want to win on OneAsia this year — as in any other year really,” he said, with just a few days to go until the March 27 - 30 tournament.

After a relatively quiet start to 2013, Hie showed his class at the Nanshan China Masters in October with a joint fourth-place finish behind Major winners Charl Schwartzel, Darren Clarke and defending champion Liang Wenchong.

A bit of his inconsistency could be attributed to flitting between contact lenses and spectacles in a bid to sharpen his focus, but Hie intends playing this season entirely in glasses while he mulls whether to undergo Lasik surgery to correct acute short-sightedness.

“I’m sticking with glasses for now,” he said. “Using transition lenses has helped me protect my eyesight so far (but) I’ll wait for the Lasik technology to upgrade so they can perform surgery on a thin cornea.”

Hie is constantly fine-tuning his game in pursuit of improvement and is confident with the feel of the new driver in his bag — as well as another surprising addition.

“I’m using the Taylormade SLDR driver now and a new Taylormade five wood,” he said. “I’ve never used a five wood before, but I feel like am getting too old to hit a two iron.

“I tinker all the time — sometimes not for the better, but golf is best learned from trial and error.

“I know what I am capable of and I would like to get better. You wont get there by staying the same.”

And his opinion of “BSD”, as locals fondly refer to Damai Indah Golf’s Jack Nicklaus-designed Bumi Serpong Damai course?

“It’s definitely a ball strikers golf course. The greens are tricky too, but I’m really looking forward it.”

Playing at home means Hie also get the chance to indulge more in his hobbies off the course.

“I’m an avid music fan — and not just one genre. My favorite band has always been Green Day, but when I am in the mood I listen to some metal from A7X (Avenged Sevenfold) and as well as rap. Eminem is my favorite rapper.

“I also love fast cars and video games.”

First Test For Q-School Winners At Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, March 12 - Q-School winners Sam Yi and Kevin Jun-seok Lee will get the chance to test their mettle against some of the best players in the Asia-Pacific when the 2014 OneAsia season tees off in the Indonesian capital later this month.

The pair play their first tournament as fully exempt OneAsia members at the U.S. $1 million Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation, at Damai Indah Golf’s Bumi Serpon Damai course from March 27 - 30, but will also take on the leading players from the Land of the Rising Sun as the event is fully co-sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour Organization.

“I feel great,” said 22-year-old American Yi, who survived a tense final round at Q-School in California last month to win by a stroke and book his place in all OneAsia’s minimum one million dollar events for 2014.

“I’m excited and nervous at the same time, but I just want to take it all in, learn as much as I can and just be in the moment.”

“This is what we play for,” said newly minted Australian Lee, 25, after dominating Q-School in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia at the weekend.

“I desperately wanted to play in Indonesia, so I am absolutely happy that I managed to do it.”

The Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation, boasts one of the classiest fields ever assembled in the world’s fourth most populous nation, with Major winners Y. E. Yang and John Daly the headline acts.

The winner of every OneAsia Order of Merit since the tour launched in 2009 will be present, as well as an equally strong contingent from Japan that includes such luminaries as Hiroyuki Fujita, Yuta Ikeda and Yoshinori Fujimoto.

“I haven’t played in anything this big before as I only turned pro about a year ago,” said Yi, who was born in California to parents who emigrated from Korea.

“My biggest professional events (so far) would be the the California State Open and Nevada Open — neither of which I played well in.”

Korean-born Lee, in contrast, has played several big events before but has been confined to Australia for the past year while qualifying for citizenship, which came through just last month.

Both came to golf after first trying their hand at other sports — Yi played basketball while the stocky Lee was a skater.

“I knew I couldn’t play basketball (professionally) … I was too short,” said Yi, “but I reckoned with golf, if you had a bit of talent and worked hard enough, I could, you know, make some noise.”

“I worked hard at skating,” said Lee, “but it wasn’t enough. There were better skaters in my age group, so I thought it better to try something else.”

With the encouragement of their parents, their golf careers took off at opposite ends of the earth — Yi in California and Lee in Australia — but they’ll come together in Jakarta and see where the future takes them.

“This season my goal is obviously to keep my card, but also to see what it takes to be a touring professional and to learn the ropes in events as big as those on OneAsia,” said Yi, who boasts a stud earring and punk hairstyle.

For Lee, a professional for a lot longer, he wants to shine particularly in the top co-sanctioned events such as Indonesia, the Thailand Open and next month’s Volvo China Open, which also has the European Tour’s imprimatur.

“I actually didn’t realise that winning here would get me into China until a mate texted me saying he wanted to caddie for me,” he said after his weekend Q-School win.

“My wife was nearly in tears.”

Both will try to avoid the fate of last year’s Q-School winners who struggled after dominating qualification.

American-Filipino Eric Mina, who triumphed in California, and Japan’s Akinori Tani, the Malaysia winner, made just three cuts each to finish 62nd and 77th on the money list respectively, limiting their status for 2014.

OneAsia was founded in 2009 by the China Golf Association, the Korea Golf Tour, the Korea Golf Association and the PGA of Australia.

It has since doubled in size, and the tour's elite suite of tournaments now includes the national Opens of Australia, China, Korea and Thailand -- as well as numerous other prestigious events.

The Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation promises to be fantastic start to another great season on both tours and will be broadcast around the world — and streamed live outside Asia — to hundreds of millions of homes, clubs and other venues.

Enjoy Jakarta is the capital province’s tourism portal, while the Indonesia Port Corporation is a parastatal responsible for the country’s vast harbor and ship-berthing facilities scattered across the archipelago of around 18,000 islands and serving the world’s fourth most populous nation.

The tournament will be promoted by World Sport Group (WSG) for a third time, with the company drawing on their vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure an outstanding event is staged.

Pagunsan Aiming To Repeat Winning Form At BSD In Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, March 10 - Filipino Juvic Pagunsan will have an ace up his sleeve when he parades his silky skills at this month’s Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

The U.S. $1 million tournament from March 27 - 30 is being played at Damai Indah Golf’s Bumi Serpong Damai course, where Pagunsan claimed his first professional victory in 2007.

He won the Pertamina Indonesia President Invitational on the highly-rated Jack Nicklaus-designed course after blasting a final round seven-under 65 for a winning total of 19-under-par 269.

The Filipino romped home in style with a birdie on the 17th and an eagle at the par-five 18th to finish a shot ahead of India’s Gaganjeet Bhullar.

Pagunsan — joint runner up at last year’s tournament — is one of host of big name players to confirm for this month’s event, which will be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO) and is the season-opener for both circuits.

Major winners John Daly from the United States and Y.E. Yang from Korea are also taking part in the tournament, won last year by Korean Choi Ho-sung.

Pagunsan wrote a slice of history in 2011 when he became the first Filipino to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit.

While he didn’t win a tournament that year, four top-10 finishes — including runner-up at the cash-rich Barclays Singapore Open — saw him rise to the top. He had a putt to win in a play-off against Spaniard Gonzalo Fernandez-Castano, but just missed.

A year earlier he lifted the ASEAN PGA Tour Order of Merit trophy, helped by a memorable seven-shot victory at the 2010 Mercedes-Benz Masters Thailand.

Pagunsan enjoyed a brilliant amateur career that saw him clean up in 2005, winning the SEA Games in Manila in both the individual and team events, as well as the national amateur Opens of the Philippines, Thailand and Malaysia.

With such credentials, the 35-year-old from Canlubang Golf Club outside Manila will be one of the favorites at the Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

Situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River west of Jakarta, Bumi Serpong Damai — popularly known by locals as BSD — is framed by the upmarket housing estates of Serpong.

Enjoy Jakarta is the capital province’s tourism portal, while the Indonesia Port Corporation is a parastatal responsible for the country’s vast harbor and ship-berthing facilities scattered across the archipelago of around 18,000 islands and serving the world’s fourth most populous nation.

The tournament is promoted by World Sport Group (WSG) for a third time, with the company drawing on its vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure an outstanding event is staged.

Major Winner Y.E. Yang To Enjoy Jakarta At Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, March 3 - Korea’s Y. E. Yang, a PGA Championship specialist, has confirmed his participation in this month’s Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship presented by Indonesia Port Corporation.

The man who became the first Asian to win a Major when he claimed the 2009 U.S. PGA Championship will compete in the U.S.$1 million OneAsia event in Jakarta at Damai Indah Golf’s Bumi Serpong Damai course from March 27 to 30.

He will join two-time Major winner John Daly in the tournament which will again be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO), and is the opening tournament of the 2014 season for both.

Yang is a two-time winner on OneAsia having claimed both the Kolon Korea Open and Volvo China Open in 2010.

He has also won five times on the JGTO, but his big breakthrough win came in the 2006 HSBC Champions in China, a World Golf Championships event. He defeated American Tiger Woods by two shots on that occasion.

In March 2009 he lifted his first title on the U.S. PGA Tour at the Honda Classic, becoming only the second Korean after K.J. Choi to win in the United States.

That victory proved to be a teaser for what was to come as in August he marched to victory and stardom in the 91st PGA Championship. He overcame a two-shot deficit going into the final round to finish three strokes ahead of Woods, his playing partner.

For the Indonesia PGA ,a stellar line up of players from both Tours is expected to enter. The event was won last year by Korean Choi Ho-sung. In the inaugural edition of the event in 2011 Australian Andre Stolz beat Indonesian number one Rory Hie by one shot.

Enjoy Jakarta, the capital territory’s tourism portal, is an enthusiastic and generous supporter of golf in Indonesia and delighted to be continuing backing the country’s richest tournament.

“With comprehensive regional television coverage, a world class field and an outstanding venue, Enjoy Jakarta’s partnership with the Indonesia PGA Championship reaps huge reward,” said Joko Widodo, the Governor of Jakarta.

The event marks the first time the Indonesia Port Corporation, the state body responsible for the governance, regulation, maintenance of maritime berths and harbours across the country, has sponsored a golf tournament.

“This tournament provides us with a great opportunity to promote our services throughout Asia,” said R.J. Lino, CEO of the IPC.

The tournament, promoted by World Sport Group, will be broadcast live for all four days on a regional platform including FOX Sports.

Two Time Major Winner John Daly To Play 2014 Indonesia PGA Championship

JAKARTA, Feb 19 - Two-time Major winner John Daly will be one of the star attractions at next month’s Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, which has also been boosted by the participation of the Indonesia Port Corporation as a presenting sponsor for the first time.

Adding to the spectacle is the fact that the U.S. $1 million tournament — to be played from March 27 to 30 at Damai Indah Golf, Bumi Serpong Damai — will again be jointly sanctioned by OneAsia and the Japan Golf Tour Organisation, and is the opening tournament of the 2014 season for both.

A stellar field is expected for the now officially titled "Enjoy Jakarta Indonesia PGA Championship, presented by Indonesia Port Corporation", with defending champion Choi Ho-sung from Korea leading the charge.

Australian Andre Stolz beat Indonesian number one Rory Hie by a shot to win the inaugural edition of the tournament in 2011.

American Daly, nicknamed “Wild Thing”, is sure to be a huge draw on his debut and likely to thrill the crowds with his trademark big hitting.

The 47-year-old’s two greatest accomplishments are his “zero to hero” victory in the 1991 PGA Championship, and his playoff victory over Italian Costantino Rocca in the 1995 Open Championship.

According to official performance statistics kept since 1980, Daly in 1997 became the first U.S. PGA Tour player to average more than 300 yards (270 metres) per drive over a full season — a feat he repeated every year between 1999 and 2008. It was only matched by a second player in 2003.

“Through this tournament we are able to showcase to the region the wonderful appeal that our nation’s capital boasts and its tremendous value as a golfing destination.”

“One of our key corporate values is integrity, and this is certainly evident by our decision to sponsor the Indonesia PGA Championship -- an outstanding sporting event that our country can be proud of.”

Damai Indah Golf, the brainchild of Indonesian real estate developer and business baron Ciputra, consists of two international championship courses in completely different and challenging surroundings. Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) is located in the West Java satellite city of the same name, while and Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) rests along the Java Sea in North Jakarta.

Bumi Serpong Damai, affectionately known by locals as “BSD”, is situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River with the up-market housing estates of Serpong providing an impressive backdrop.

Tournament will be promoted by World Sport Group (WSG) for a third time, drawing on their vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure an outstanding event is staged.

WSG also promote the Emirates Australian Open, the Thailand Open and the Singapore Open.

New Home For Indonesia PGA Championship In 2014

JAKARTA, Dec 18 - The Indonesia PGA Championship will be played at the Damai Indah Golf – Bumi Serpong Damai (BSD) course for the first time next year as part of an exciting early-season swing on OneAsia.

The picturesque venue, the first Jack Nicklaus-designed course in Indonesia, will host the U.S. $1 million tournament from March 27 - 30, and for the second successive year will be joint sanctioned by the Japan Golf Tour Organisation (JGTO).

The tournament tees off a week after the Thailand Open, also a OneAsia and JGTO event, which will be played from March 13 to 16.

“Damai Indah Golf – Bumi Serpong Damai course is thrilled to welcome the 2014 Indonesia PGA Championship,” said Christine Wiradinata, Director, Damai Indah Golf.

“We are firmly established as one of Indonesia’s premier golf courses, well known for staging world class tournaments. Our Jack Nicklaus championship course will provide an outstanding layout for some of the world’s finest players.”

The brainchild of well-known Indonesian real estate developer and business baron Ir. Ciputra, Damai Indah Golf consists of two international championship courses in completely different and challenging surroundings. Bumi Serpong Damai — known to local golfers as "BSD" — is located in the West Java satellite city of the same name, while Pantai Indah Kapuk is along the Java Sea in North Jakarta.

BSD is situated alongside the impressive Cisadane River that is framed by the upmarket housing estates of Serpong.

“The Indonesia PGA Championship together with our friends at the Japan Golf Tour Organisation and the world class Damai Indah Golf course will combine to help launch another great year on OneAsia,” said OneAsia Commissioner and Chairman Sang Y. Chun.

Next year is the sixth season of OneAsia and marks the third staging of the Indonesia PGA Championship.

“This year the Japan Golf Tour Organisation enjoyed an excellent start to the season by joint-sanctioning the Indonesia PGA Championship and Thailand Open with OneAsia and we look forward to a repeat of this in 2014,” said Katsuji Ebisawa, Chairman, JGTO.

In March, Korean Choi Ho-sung survived a dramatic three-hour storm delay on the final hole and drained an eight-foot birdie putt for a two-stroke victory in the Indonesian PGA Championship at Emeralda Golf Club.

At the inaugural event in 2011, Australian Andre Stolz beat Indonesian number one Rory Hie by a shot at Imperial Klub Golf.
