Indonesia finished third at the 51st Putra Cup at the Clearwater Bay Golf and Country Club in Hong Kong yesterday, with George Gandranata finishing third in the individual ranking with a total of 284.
The title went to Singapore (846), whose four members will take part in the SEA Games in Indonesia in November. Hong Kong (851) and Indonesia (860) came in second and third respectively.
In the individual event, the winner was Tze Huang Choo of Singapore who carded a 281, two shots ahead of Shinichi Mizuno of Hong Kong. George Gandranata and Shun Yat Hak of Hong Kong were joint third.
Established in 1961, the Putra Cup is one of the most prestigious amateur tournaments in the region.
Equaling the men's national performance in the Putra Cup, the Indonesian junior team also placed third at the 5th Lion City Cup held simultaneously.
The Thai team of Chanachok Dejpiratanamongkol, Pariwat Pinsawat, Somprat Rattanasuwan and Aussarassakorn Voramate posted a 869 total to beat Malaysia (873) and Indonesia (888). The individual event was won by Malaysian Low Khai Jei (286), where Jordan Irawan had the best individual score for the Indonesians with a joined fifth place and a total tally of 293.
The Thai women also triumphed in the 3rd Santi Cup on 852, one stroke better than the Philippines led by Dottie Ardina. Malaysia was a distant third with a score of 877, with Indonesia placed sixth and last with a score of 916. Thailand's Pinrat Loomboonruang (276) claimed the individual crown, while best individual result for Indonesia was a 14th place 300 by Juriah.
