Enjoy Jakarta Extends Relationship With Indonesia Open
Jakarta, May 23: The Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta returns to the golf calendar this year in prime position to build upon the many successes of last season.
Enjoy Jakarta have renewed their association with the event as presenting sponsor and for the second year in a row it will be staged at Damai Indah Golf - Pantai Indah Kapuk Course.
The tournament will be played from July 14 to 17 and is the seventh stop of the year on OneAsia.
Indonesia’s national Open made its debut on OneAsia in 2010, when victory went to Michael Hendry from New Zealand, and it once again returns with a lucrative purse of US$1 million.
Key sponsors include leading brands Mercedes-Benz, Breitling, Bali Hai, Titleist, Kyocera, Pin High, Power Balance and the Sultan Hotel.
“The Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta is one of the premier sporting events in our country which receives huge international exposure. It is an annual treat for everyone involved and is the perfect fit for Enjoy Jakarta as our market is the Asia Pacific region,” said His Excellency Dr. Ing H. Fauzi Bowo, Governor of Jakarta.
A stellar field will compete in the tournament and have the chance to claim the winners’ cheque which is worth US$180,000. Details of the players competing will be released over the coming weeks.
“The tournament regularly attracts the game’s best players and is played at our finest golf courses, of which we have many. We are very proud of its success and focus all our attention on building the tournament into one of the premier national Opens’ in the region,” added Dr. Fauzi.
The Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta will benefit from a series of promotional events for the first time this year.
Spectators will be encouraged to register and take part in a winner takes all “Hole in One Contest” on the driving range with the prize being a Mercedes-Benz.
In addition there will be two nearest the pin competitions where participants can win a brand new Breitling Colt Quartz in steel with black dial and Professional Bracelet.
They will also have the opportunity to win one of Titleist’s latest clubs. These competitions will take place at the driving range from Thursday through to Saturday.
“With a lucrative purse of US$1 million, an excellent sponsor in Enjoy Jakarta, a wealth of top players from the Asia Pacific region and a large number of places available in the field for Indonesian golfers we could not ask for anything more. We feel the Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta has a winning formulae and we look forward to the first ball being struck on July 14,” said Arifin Panigoro – President of the Indonesian Golf Association (PGI).
The entry list will reflect the strength in depth of OneAsia which was founded in 2009 by the China Golf Association, the PGA of Australia, the Korean Golf Association and the Korea Golf Tour.
“The Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta marks our second visit of 2011 to Indonesia, following our season opening Indonesia PGA Championship. In that first event we saw young Indonesian Rory Hie finish in second place and it is just such inspired and heroic performances from the region’s rising stars that we look for on OneAsia," said Sang Y Chun, OneAsia’s Chairman & Commissioner.
"OneAsia is now into its third season and we are excited at how quickly we are growing. Last year we had one event in Indonesia and this year two. Our schedule boasts a total of 13 tournaments, each with a purse of at least US$1million, and this expansion is thanks to events like the Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta.”
Hendry propelled his name into the spotlight last year with an emphatic seven-stroke victory in the Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta.
The 30-year-old from North Harbour started the day with a one stroke lead and fired a flawless final round seven-under-par 65 at Damai Indah Golf - Pantai Indah Kapuk Course to finish comfortably ahead of second placed Liang Wenchong from China.
The Indonesia Open was first played in 1974 when the legendary Ben Arda of the Philippines won the title. Arda, the first Filipino to play in the Masters, was followed into the winner’s circle by several greats of the game including American Payne Stewart (1981) and Frank Nobilo from New Zealand (1994 and 1997).
“We were delighted with the success of last year’s Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta. The event is the country’s flagship tournament and is it therefore an honour and a privilege to host the tournament once again,” said Christine Wiradinata – Director, Damai Indah Golf - Pantai Indah Kapuk Course.
The Damai Indah Golf - Pantai Indah Kapuk Course, known as the “Spirit of the Sea”, is an award-winning course designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. It has challenged many of the world’s leading professionals during tour events while it gives enjoyment to players of all skill levels.
The course, which was opened in 1992 and is regarded as one of Trent Jones Jr’s foremost works, has built up a reputation as one of the best and most visually appealing layouts in Asia.
The Indonesia Open presented by Enjoy Jakarta is jointly promoted by World Sport Group and Global One. Both will draw on their vast experience in sponsorship, media and event management to ensure this year’s tournament is one of the finest ever.

Caramia Sitompul Fights Back At NCAA Central Regional
SOUTH BEND, Ind., May 7, 2011 -- After enduring a near two-and-a-half hour delay due to thunderstorms, the University of Michigan women's golf team posted a 315 final round score today (Saturday, May 7) to finish 18th with a 938 team total at the 2011 NCAA Central Regional held on Notre Dame's Warren Golf Course. By virtue of the Wolverines' finish, they did not advance to the NCAA Finals, ending their season.
The Wolverines open the regional with a 316 and were in a tie for 20th after day one ended on Thursday (May 5). U-M then carded a 307 to move up three spots after round two on Friday (May 6). Junior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) fired her best round of the tournament (three-over 75) in round one and freshman Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) equaled the score in the second round.
After playing nearly 12 holes, the Wolverines were called off the course today but returned to finish the round and the regional. Sophomore Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Bradenton, Fla.]) paced U-M on the final day, producing her best round of the event, a four-over 76.
Bauer and Shimel were the top Wolverines individually, as they each finished at 233 in a tie for 63rd. After opening with the 75, Bauer posted back-to-back 79s to close her regional, while Shimel opened with an 80 but followed with rounds of 75 and 78.
Using her final-round 76, Sitompul finished tied for 85th at 238 (79-83-76), while senior Min Yean Tan (Penang Island, Malaysia/Hills International College [Australia]) tied for 105th at 243 (85-76-82) and freshman Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County) tied for 112th at 245 (82-77-86).
The eight teams advancing to the NCAA Championships include UCLA, LSU, Minnesota, Arkansas, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Stanford and Wake Forest. Tulane's Maribel Lopez Porras (par) defeated Chattanooga's Maria Juliana Loza (bogey) on first playoff hole (No. 10) to earn second individual qualifying spot. She will join Duke's Lindy Duncan as an individual qualifier for this year's NCAA Finals.
U-M closed the regular season with nine top-10 finishes, an eighth-place finish at the Big Ten Championships -- posting the fourth-lowest score in program history -- and made the ninth (team and individual) NCAA regional appearance (team and individual) in the last 11 seasons.
